Engineering Minds workshops, like no other offered, are designed for super curious students of science and technology. Our workshops inspire, enlighten, and empower students through the teaching of engineering theory, application, and career or "soft" skills. Students are engaged through discussion, student presentations, projects, and engineering videos. They are encouraged to engage with mentors and each other, and to think creatively at all levels, on all topics, and in all activities. We cover a broad range of scientific and technical topics and all class material is customized and presented by real engineers.
The primary project technology is the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Engineering Minds is the only program to successfully offer FPGA technology, a course offered to undergraduate engineering students, to middle and high school students. Why wait until college? Dr. Athan's unique curriculum allows middle and high school students to get the Altera FPGA tools up and running by the second day of the workshop! This technology and application is beyond the traditional use of general purpose robotics, microcontrollers, microprocessors, and programming platforms, such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Python, offered at every other summer program. Instead, students learn the "DNA" of drones and robotics and learn the valuable differences between hardware and software development. They learn how to design and build any type of system to their choosing and never again have to settle for an "off the shelf" or "store bought" solution. This sets our Engineering Minds students apart from those in ordinary programs that use beginner, non professional platforms as opposed to tools and techniques currently used in industry and academia.
